Anything is Possible 5k

Last night , really this morning I ran my first 5K . I normally would not run a 5k they cost as much as longer races and you only run for a few minutes . This one was different . It was the Anything is Possible 5k and it was run in 9 cities at 1:50 am this morning . The time changed while we were running so we ended up with a negative time . It also benefited our Nevada Wounded Warriors .
Check in was from 9:00 to midnight so I waited as long as I could , I had no idea what we would do from midnight to 1:50am . We left here after 11:00 and it was snowing lightly , forecast was for heavy snow at some point in the night . Not a big selling feature for me I'm pretty fairweather. I had on long underwear , running tights , a capilene shirt , a soft shell winter jacket , gloves and a hat . The race was run on the campus of UNR . We drove down to the packet pickup at the Little Waldorf, a bar and restaurant pretty much on the campus . Now we had a couple hours to kill and no idea what to do . We went and did our grocery shopping , still had time . We went to Wal-mart wandered around bought some random stuff . Great to live in a 24 hour town when you are out at 1:00am . Finally we headed back to UNR . It started snowing big flakes and it looked as if I was going to run in the snow . While we sat in the car more and more people started showing up , it looked like a good turn out in spite of the snow . We gathered at the start for instructions and the National anthem , Reno and Seattle were the last cities to run , others were East or Central . While standing there I talked to two ladies who had just gotten there , they drove over from Elko ( 350 miles ) to do this 5k .
We did the count down and took off . I knew it would be very fast and I'm not , loads of College kids too . I stuck with them the first 1/2 mile then fell into a faster pace then I normally run but nothing like a 5k pace . I checked my GPS and 1 1/2 miles had already gone by , half the race that seemed funny to me . We ran though the campus made a loop and headed back . I passed some people on the way back and finished at the time I expected to 27:07 . I might have been able to go faster but it was 1:50am and snowing so I'll call it good . This was probably my first and last 5k , unless they do it again next year .
My 27:02 official time was good for 1st of 18 in my age group , 6th in the women , and 51st overall . This was the last race of the year , well maybe not but probably.
