Thanksgiving

November 19 - Walked 4 miles with the dogs , ran @1/3 of a mile . It felt awesome and awful . It felt great to run , both knees were not as happy to run as the rest of me was . I have my ice wrap on , I buy the horse one because it's easy to find , long and probably cheaper than a human one .This picture was back in the summer , I've gone through 3 or 4 since this injury . They are pretty nice , cold enough but not so cold you can't leave them on , I'll leave it on 45 minutes to an hour . They are handy to take along and slap on after running , they stay cold in the refrigerator or a cooler .

November 20- No real problems with yesterdays "run" so I did it again today . Just 3.5 with the dogs the wind is fairly bad and made for an unpleasant walk. I set my lap feature on my GPS to check how I did running . It was .34 miles at an average pace of 10:56 . I'm running on a slight downhill on the gravel road . If I trust the Hokas and run with correct form there isn't a huge lot of pain . My left knee still was unhappy about it all though. Same thing again I got home and put the ice wrap on kept it on for @ an hour . My goal for the first month was 45 miles , today I am at 40 and I have 5 days to go , pretty happy with that

This is the walk I do most of the time we call it The Church Hill , Brian riding up the hill , way in the background Mt Rose & Slide Mountain

Once you go up the lower part you can continue on out into the BLM as far as you want to go

or you can continue up Fred's Mountain @7,200' at the top . It was mined at one time and has many roads and trails going up it
The property on either side of the road going up the hill belongs to a Church ...that's why we call The Church Hill

November 21 - Windy again . I tried my elliptical  machine haven't used it in many many years . It seems to give a similar motion to running and it did not cause any pain did about 26 minutes on that . Then went out for 2.25 with the dogs according to my GPS I ran .63 miles with a super slow average of 11:08 . Again no issues it didn't feel great but later in the day nothing new just the same general soreness .

Thanksgiving - great day,  sunny,  wind finally stopped . Did 4 miles with Brian and the dogs , ran .52 with a more decent pace of 9:20 . Happy so far with my progress which does seem slow but I want to make sure it stays stable and can tolerate each attempt to run well . My usual MO is to just keep going and worry about it later . I have now done 4 days in a row and it hasn't changed anything , it does seem a bit less stiff in the morning which is telling me moving it is helping the arthritis .  Ate way too much . Since surgery I have lost 10 of the 20 I packed on since the injury , I know once I can run in a regular way the rest will come off .

Back to the doctor on Tuesday for my last visit,  for now,  also my last visit to Larry  .
