November 8 - Three weeks today since surgery . I'm pretty happy with how it's healing, a couple things I will just have to live with - the medial pain which I now know is my poor unprotected femur grinding away on my tibia .Walked 1.25 miles into the oncoming storm with the dogs . I did not have enough clothes so we cut it short .
I do some crazy stuff to maintain my broken down body so I can keep moving . For many years I have eaten a 50/50 raw diet and have tried to get rid of sugar and processed food . We know certain foods can help or hurt you . For as long as I can remember I fed corn oil to the horses for fat and nice coats . A few years ago I stopped because I'm cheap and I could use water to get the supplements to stick to the grain . Within a week of stopping the oil Pete , arthritis in his hocks , showed an improvement in his lameness . I did some research and found out how corn can cause inflammation and that led me research other foods to decrease inflammation in your body . A few things I use every day: raw spinach , Amazing Grass Superfood , Udo's Oil , Chai seeds , blueberries . I also eat what ever fruit is in season and add in pumpkin when I can stand it because it's gross . I was using rice protein but switched back to soy protein recently . I have cut out all dairy except some organic non-fat yogurt and most all sugar , I rarely eat bread . I don't eat red meat for ethical rather than health reasons, I gave it up 15 years ago . None of these changes were all that hard to do . I also take some joint supplements . I run to stay fit because I don't believe you can be/stay healthy without moving somehow and running is fun .
November 9- 25 minutes on the bike at the gym and various machines , upper body and legs/hips .
November 10 - Three miles with Brian and the dogs in the bitter cold snow and wind , average speed was 3.7 mph did one mile 15:56 so getting closer to normal . We stopped by to visit a friend who wants Brian to build her some stuff for her. She has a very similar surgery 3 months ago and is not doing well at all . She looked at me like I was crazy when I told her I was at 3 weeks . I will not let these minor things take over my life anymore than they have to . This has been by far the easiest of my 7 knee surgeries and I'm 20 years older than the last one . Larry the PT tells me I am highly motivated , he's right I am so tired of being not able to do what I want I will do anything I can to not be this way a minute longer than I have to .
November 11 Veterans Day - It was cold , three miles with the dogs and Brian we stopped to talk with a neighbor so I don't have a great average but I did do one mile at 16:11 . Still only using 3# for the leg exercises and 15 minutes of e stim . I have therapy on Tuesday and I'll get the next set of instructions . I think it will be my last visit as I am paying out of pocket for PT . I might do one more right before I start running again @ Dec. 1
